hi all i am new to this forum and just got the scare of my life, my doctor did my annual pap and when the results came back they were abnormal, a-typical cells not sure what that means exactly but he basically told me i need a cone biopsy to rule out cervical cancer. so now after i have done some research on the net i am even more terrified than before and am lost on what it is in simple terms not definition. can anyone help me here? has anyone had one before, if so does it hurt (rate pain 1- 10 for me please)? how will it affect my chances of having another child? is there an online support group/ information site decated to this topic? Question

Hello

A cone biopsy is simply a procedure where a cone-shaped biopsy is taken from the cervix. This can bleed, and usually it requires some anesthesia, I am unsure what the current practice regarding that is. I also understand that after a cone biopsy your cervix can become incompetent, i.e. not hold the baby's weight, but that is usually controlled with cerclation, where a doctor ties your cervix closed with wires so that it will be competent. Again, not being an OB/GYN I don't know specifics.

best regards,
Leo

Hi,

A common side-effect of Cone Biopsy is Cervical Shortening and this may cause problems in conception.

Do consult your doctor about this.
