Hey everyone, I'm new here. I'm 25 years old, and I have 2 small children, 3 years old and 8 months old. Well, my left eye began twitching about 5 months ago--of course, I chalked it up to stress because of the kids! But after about 3 months of twitching, I decided to go to the eye doctor to get it checked out. They said everything was fine with my eyes, that it was probably stress-related. About a week later, I noticed a hard lump in front of my left ear. It's not huge or anything, but it is definitely palpable. I kept an eye on it, and after 4 weeks of no change, decided to go to the Dr to get it checked. She didn't like the feel of it since it was so hard, so she immediately referred me to an ENT. The ENT said it also had a "funny feeling" to it, and sent me for a CT of the neck. Results said it was either a primary parotid tumor, benign or malignant, or an intraparotid lymph node. Also, I had lymphadenopathy in my cervical lymph nodes, but I think it was minimal. So, the ENT put me on 2,000mg/day of antibiotics for 10 days. Needless to say, the lump is still there. I went back to see him a couple of days ago and he said "It sure would have been more reassuring if the lump had gone away". He told me that it was one of three things 1)a tumor, benign or malignant 2)a reactive lymph node, 3)lymphoma. Of course, this scared me a little. I've been extremely tired lately--of course, I have 2 kids, so...I'm supposed to go on June 19th to have an FNA done. He said no matter what the results show, I've got to have parotidectomy to have the lump removed. Has anyone here ever had lymphoma diagnosed through their parotid gland? I think it's kinda strange. I don't have any night sweats or anything. I have been trying to lose weight since having the baby, so I wouldn't know if I've had weight loss or not. I've lost about 30 pounds, and am weighing about 114. Of course, I was 119 at the dr's office 3 weeks ago, and I'm not trying to lose weight anymore. These last 5 pounds must be from worrying! I have had lower back pain, but I think that's from carrying the baby. I don't think that's a symptom of lymphoma anyway, just thought I'd mention it. I get very light-headed sometimes, especially upon standing. No matter how slow I stand up, I feel like I'm going to faint. I haven't been able to motivate myself to exercise for the past 3 weeks because I've been so tired. BUT, my 8-month-old still wakes 2 or 3 times a night. SO maybe I'm just being a hypocondriac, and this lump is just a benign parotid tumor, and these lumps in my neck are nothing. I'm so sorry I've rambled on so long!! I just really would love some answers...any thoughts? _________________ Jenny |

The facial nerve runs through the parotid gland, so the ENT dr thinks that the "lump" is probably touching it, causing my eye to twitch. weird, huh? _________________ Jenny |

Well, the FNA is my idea. He said he'd leave it up to me, so I decided to have it. I can't have the surgery until end of July/beginning of August, and I just want some kind of answer before then. Hopefully, the FNA can at least tell me if we are dealing with a tumor or a lymph node. I just probably won't find out if it's malignant or not. Is this a bad idea?
