The more bad tempered and grouchy he is, the better the news is right now, I guess. Except for those in the blast circle!

Good to hear continuing stories of progress after the fears of the early days.

Point out to the man that he is far more patient with recalcitrant software than he seems to be with his own recovery!

Dear Jen,
Mike and I are on vacation in Oregon. Way to go,Larry!!! He can hang on another day or so before he moves upstairs. Tell him to trust those who have helped him so far. So glad to hear that he has so much chutzpah. Keep it up, Larry. Much love,

Friday 28th 10pm

Larry is fine – he will realise soon that you have to walk before you can run but in the meantime he is like a teenager after their first kiss – like when does the sex happen?.

He is close to clinical independence – loo, walking, general care but it will take a few days before he can do these things with any semblance of fluidity. I have no doubt there will be frustrating moments between now and when he is finally discharged from hospital – as there will be loads of frustration in the weeks and months to come – everything will take its course and accordingly its time.

However, he is so Larry. A little extreme but something you would all recognise and be slightly scared/worried/humoured/confused by. As I say, Lso arry.

Next week he will be up for phone calls and ‘open’ visits. He already has his mobile back (although not allowed in ITU) so you can try to get through or leave him messages/texts. (Parkers of DC I will email you asap. He wants to hear Chichi’s opinion on war/policy and presidential efficacy - you know from the mouth of babes ….)

On a total aside – friends/readers ‘state side’ – do you really holiday in Oregon? What is there to do? This is a really European comment – sorry to be so naive!

Tomorrow is going to be another day of achievements and I shall report accordingly.

Love to all and especially those who still face dark and worrying times with their own battles. Be strong and look for the light. It is there and it does shine – in every smile and positive thought.

Sounds all good news. Brill - again, I'd love to see you guys...

ANYWAY - Oregon.

I went to university in Portand Oregon -and it's a lovely city. It has a tram system, the biggest Japanese gardens outside Japan, a Rose test gardens, a Rhotodendron gardens, a science museum, and some fine restaurants (along with a thriving Chinatown). There was a great cafe/pattisterie (sorry about the spelling) called Rimski Korsikoffee House - no prizes for guessing the theme there. Visitors to the loo always got a shock - you don't expect a fully dressed mannequin of Eric Satee in a Cafe bathtub...

. It's near a mountain where people ski (Mt Hood) and not too far from a mountain that blew up (Mt St Helens). It's about 2 hours drive south of Seattle, and 12 hours' drive north of San Francisco.

A drivable distance is the Oregon Coast - Cannon Beach is a bit kitchy, but good fun for all that - colourful kites, pretty beatches, lots of craft shops.

The actually capital of Oregon is Salem - I've been several times, but have to admit that there's not much there to recommend it, apart from an amusing duck crossing sign.

I have friends in Portland - let me know if/when/where you're going and I'll get some more specific recommendations.

Let me know if I can tell you anything else - I have photos if you're interested!

Cheers,
Kate

Sunday 30th 8am

Sorry for not posting last night – it was long day - and I did not get home until gone 11pm.

Larry has been moved out of ITU up to the luxury and peace of the 4th floor. He his happy, taking calls on his mobile and via the main switchboard, seeing visitors, learning to be independent with his new but temporary gadgets and most importantly making plans for the next 30 years,

Today will be like most Sundays, we will watch Grand Prix together and moan about how rubbish it is, we will take a little stroll (Marylebone Hi Street is our destination), we will natter of friends, family, work, politics, re-decorating and holiday plans (my favourite topic). The most normal of Sundays.

With the exception of a brief ‘review of the week’ this will be my last post on Larry’s progress.

It has been a monumental achievement by a dedicated and determined team. It has been a nail-biting fight with each round leaving the crowd breathless, waiting for their man to deliver a knock-out upper-cut without hitting the canvass before the final bell. A great champion has emerged.

Love and positivity to all. XX

We will miss the posts but then again we are so glad that they are not needed any more and we are longing for the time when we can get our own post direct from the hero himself.

Love to you both

The final review

40 days and 40 nights – there is significance here. (It is most remarkable that each passing solar year can very effectively (even perfectly!) be measured and metered out by keeping track of every 40th day. Essentially, the annual transit which completes every 365.24219 days can just about EXACTLY be cross-referenced to a tally of those days that make up a 40-day cycle!) http://www.creation-answers.com/forty.htm

Virtually every culture has used 40 days as a cycle and great events have been aligned to this time-frame.

I do feel that back in February, when we were poleaxed by the news of Larry’s diagnosis, we started to build a boat. We worked like demons day and night to get it ready in time. We filled it with our friends, family, hopes and dreams and on the 19th of June we set off into stormy seas, not knowing where this journey would end or what perils we would face along the way.

This voyage has shown me (and Larry) a view of the world that could never have been seen from land.

I have learnt that the strength of the people that care (even the ones you’ve never met) is vital.
I have seen positivity and ‘belief’ summon a sort of ‘magic’ that is unique and unparalleled.
I have understood that ‘meerkat status’ is necessary to protect loved ones and yourself from the most dangerous of predators.

It is these things that have kept this boat on an even-keel even when waves crashed over her decks and the rocks loomed huge on both sides.

After 40 days, this boat has now docked and all her passengers must disembark. Now we will start to lay new foundations. We will use the structural components of our boat along with our new found wisdom, our friends and our strength and we’ll construct something monumental and enduring.

Thank you for being a member of the crew on this crossing – there are no words that could express my gratitude.

Jenny

Jenny and Larry, what can we say? This has been quite a voyage. We can't tell you how reassuring the idea of you two watching&moaning about the grand prix this weekend has been for us. I think you'll find it was a very similar situation when we saw you last! We still think Schumi is a prat but let's discuss later! love and stuff

Oh yeah, by the way what are we supposed to do every morning now when we want to know how things are?

I think that's the sound of an over elaborate theatrical kind of kiss comin' at ya.
Looking forward to seeing you both soon.
Best of everything, Ivan

Jenny & Larry!

Look out fourth floor, and shortly, all of London. Now that you've both beaten the worst opponent of all, nothing will stop you now! I'll miss reading your daily blogs, but know that you both will be in my thoughts and prayers.

Love,
Cousin Cheryl

Dear Jenny and Larry

After a few days away, it has been a true delight to read of the progress that has been made. I am so glad that ITU is a thing of the past. Onwards and upwards.

Love and "well done" to both of you.

Love
Annie
