Hi everbody

As promised I will keep this posting up-dated with news. (I'll keep the gory pictures for later)

He was in good spirits this morning before surgery and he knows that today is the begining of a long road to recovery and wellness.

I have left him in the safe (and very delicate) hands of Mr George Hanna, him eminent and very charming surgeon.

Will post again late tonight.

Hi

Larry was taken up to the ITU at 9.30pm London time. Mr Hanna and the anethtist are both happy:P Which after 12 hours of plutzing I needed to hear.

The surgery has gone well and they had "mlies" (Hanna) of 'margin' - which trust me is great. (this is to do with the distance of the cut in relation to the tumor)

To ensure that his lungs stay clear they will keeping him on a breathing machine tonight. So tubes and wires everywhere. But all seems calm. So will post again tomorrow with news and med facts.

Thanks everyone - nice to know your out there.

Wednesday morning

Larry has had a good night - he looks great (!)

He has been kept sedated and this will be the case until this afternoon when they intend to remove the 'breathing' machine and mobilize him.

The 10 or so tubes are or have been adminstering - 2 x antibiotics, hydration fluids, plasma, morphine, drains from stomach, bladder, 2 x wound areas. The funky vital signs monitor seems to have all good numbers. When I stroke his hands or feet the numbers all shift slightly - so it's nice to know that in his dreamy sub-conscious he's responding. (and after 22 years I've not lost the knack!)

I arrived at the night/day shift change so it was easy for me to listen in to the info as the nurses crossed over. Loads of medical mumbling interspersed with words like good, comfortable, no problems, stable. Nurse Fred did the night shift and Nurse Jeff is doing the day shift. So I'll be hucking him later for more tachnical and medical info.

I am proud to say that the 'back stage' area is a complete jumble of cables, pipes, tubes, powerlines, etc just the sort or environment Larry is most happy in (!).

Mr Hanna says the worst days will be tomorrow and through the weekend - when he will feel like he's been 'hit by a bus' - no doubt one of Ken's bendy buggers!

Will post tonight by which time I hope he will have burbbled some nonsense and told me he loves me.

Keeping strong and positive.

Delighted that he is safely through the op. Had everything crossed yesterday. The bus due at the weekend will be a number 73, and you know how it is with buses, they always come in threes! Sending love to you both. Anything you need Jens.
Thoughts are with you.

Hi Everybody - wednesday tea time

Okay the first of the number 73 buses came hurtling along.

Around 11am they removed the 'breathing' gadgets and stopped the sedation. Then to add insult to injury they got him up - sitting in a chair and told him to do some coughing, deep breathing and leg waggling.

When one has loads of tubes, lines and drains poking out of you moving is a form of complex and ugly ballet.

Pain management was a big issue with nurses worried he was peaking his dosage - so frantic calls to consultants ensued, while all his vital signs were spiking and the levels of pain caused prolonged cold sweats

Finally at 2pm they gave shed loads more drugs and got him back into bed - where he was clearly much happier.

On a more positive note - he wanted to know how many people had logged on for updates, who had called or emailed and to see pictures of himself that I had taken when he came our of theatre. (each to their own!)

More news later - I've been warned that tomorrow will be a horrid day for him - but one step/bus at a time.

All the best

Fantastic news that Larry's through the surgery, as I understand it this is the best response that he could have had, nothing untoward discovered in the surgery etc.- apart from an hour longer in surgery. Cant see a link to the pictures and I am sure he will want a picture of all the wires behind him in the post op bed...

Hello Larry,
I am glad Jenny has not lost her touch. You may or may know what she did to you while relaxing on those pain killers but it sounded very exciting.

I just want you to know all my strength and love is being sent to you. And Larry I know you of all people will keep on trucking until your well enough to argue with me again.

Love to both of you

Nevi xx

Wednesday evening

Larry was much better this evening - they have got his pain managment under control - so although he is very ga-ga and spouting gibberish he is much more comfortable and clearly relaxed.

His day nurse Jeff gave him a shave and a wash (so he's looking ready for a night on the town)

The vibrating leg gaters are well cool - I'm sure superman must have worn these under this tights. These along with a host of other hi-tech gadgets give the reasurrance that all working parts - are working as intended.

There are a 'batch' of iv lines going into his neck - these deliver Antibiotics, pain control, etc - the wierd and strangly funky thing is that you can see the main arteries from his neck across his chest beat to the rhythm. A combination of Samba meets Frankenstein. ((He is totally unaware of this (so I'm recording it for posterity!))

Overall he is doing very well - good progress was made today and even in his most hazy of moments he is focused enough to do his breathing excises and leg wagging. I am amazed at his determination (after 22 years I'm still impressed by his doggedness and motivation)

Enough for tonight. Next update tomorrow morning.

Love to you all - he has been so overwhelmed by you messages and positive thoughts.

x
