I was diagnosed with breast cancer in March, 04. Had a masectomy on my left side and 4 rounds of chemo. Lymph nodes were negative. THEN in November, I decided to have my other breast removed because of several risk factors. To my utter surprise, there was a .7 cm tumor in it also. The first tumor in my left breast was 7.5 cm x 3.5 cm, pretty big. In the first tumor the path report said estrogen/progesterone negative; her2 negative. The right breast's report was estrogen/progesterone negative, but the her2 was positive! Does anybody know if this happens often? My doctor said I was a very unusual case and that he was going to call other doctors and do more research from University of Alabama. Anybody heard of this before? Please help!!! I'm to see my doc on January 6 and he's to tell me IF I'm to take chemo again! Don't know what to do????? Thanks! Happy New Year by the way! Very Happy

Hi

For people with high risk of breast cancer, there may be very well a second primary tumor, which I suspect that is your case, since the biology of the tumors is different. I am sure from this you may need to get more surgery and/or more chemotherapy depending on what your doctor thinks. You might need your lymphnodes checked since you only had a simple mastectomy. It is definitely not a simple case.

best regards,
Leo

Hi Leo:
Thanks for the info. When I had my last masectomy, they did not check the lymph nodes because the doctor did not know the cancer was there because it was so small. However, after finding out about the .7 cm tumor, they did go back in and check them. No cancer in 11 lymph nodes taken. I go back to my oncologist this Thursday. Will let you know what he says! Have a great day!

Yes, I'm definitely grinning today! Yesterday I went to my oncologist and he told me all the tests he had done were NEGATIVE! Even tested my chromosome 17 and it was negative!!! I'm so thankful! I don't have to go back until 3 months! I feel like I've been given a new lease on life....yep, I guess I have! ha! Thanks for your encouragement and your e-mails! God bless all of you and everybody that has to fight this battle daily! Love, Polly
