Nancy ~ I'm so sorry. I was not meaning to imply that you downplayed women over 50 getting this disease. I was just trying to say that we hear from lots more younger women because I believe they post more often on message boards. I know that you would never downplay any aspect of this disease. I always say cancer is miserable no matter what your age 6, 36 or 76. But it does present different problems at different ages.

Shelly ~ I only took birth control pills for about 10 years because the longer I was on them, the more uneasy I felt about them. But I NEVER took any HRT because I believe that is what caused my mom's BC. She had a hysterectomy in her early thirties and went on HRT for 30 years, then got BC. I just couldn't believe the doctors were giving her prescriptions for it for that many years. Even back then, I tried to talk her out of it. Maybe your daughter should get a second opinion?

I do remember when I had my first consultations with med and rad oncs when I was dx. I was grilled on all that stuff - did you take BC pills and for how long, did you take HRT or fertility drugs? Come to think of it ,even the mammo tech asked me about the birth control pills when I went for the mammo after I found the lump. She wrote down all my answers, too.

When I read in the newspaper, about a month or so ago that they had to cut a study short because of women having reoccurences, I couldn't believe what the study was. They were giving HRT to women that were er/pr+ to see if they were more prone to a reoccurence then woman who didn't take it........HELLO.... If you're er/pr+ that means your cancer feeds on hormones. I can't believe that they are WASTING money of stuff like that when the money could be used to find a cure.

I'm also amazed at the ladies I've talked to who's gyns have tried to give them HRT after a dx of BC that's er/pr+. Besides obvious data, does common sense not come into play here?

I don't get it. And I'm sure this won't be a topic that I should probably go to...... <no hitting... lol> but when is our goverment going to put more money into finding cure for diseases that are killing Americans instead of giving billions to countries who hated us before and will always hate us regardless of how much money we give to them.

Maybe I'm stupid, but there is something really bad wrong with this whole picture.
