My mom, 54 years old, has been a smoker for nearly 40 years, smoking at least 2 packs a day for the last 15-20.
For about a week she's felt a dull pain under her right breast, and has had a nagging sharp cough for the past month. She hasn't coughed up any blood, or had loss of appetite as many lung cancer patients experience.
She says the pain only occurs when she coughs, and doesn't occur during deep breathing. She also said the pain decreases significantly after she coughs up a bit of mucas.
She went in for X-rays today, and I've been really on edge (especially today, awaiting results)
I know many cancer patients show little to no symptoms during the early stages, but can anyone tell me if their experiences have been similar to my mom's, or if I'm far too worried about symptoms that could be anything. |

for anyone following this thread we just got the results.
Negative
This scare has been more than enough to convince her to quit smoking, and my deepest thoughts and prayers go out to those suffering from lung cancer. |

Great news! I am very happy for you and your family. It is scary anytime cancer is a suspect, glad she dodged that one!
