Haven't tried it, but suspect it is one of many immune system boosters for which overly strong claims are made. Like Echinacea, cat's claw and astragalus, may help and probably won't do too much harm.

Vee,

I'm thinking that the original poster meant E_s_s_i_a_c Tea, which was named after Canadian nurse Rene Caisse (spelled backward).

Moderator: please note if I type "E_s_s_i_a_c" without the underscores, it comes out as "NONONONO" when posted. (Try it for youself)

Since it has been around since 1922, it has had ample time to be proven as viable if it were.

While it is probably harmless as you suggest, it seems to be over-hyped. This raises expections beyond what is reasonable, and casts doubts on other alternatives that may be more viable. In other words, with the large number of alternatives that have little or no effect, more viable alteratives are often overlooked as more of the same.

I think your comments on it were appropriate.

The problem with miracle drugs, miracle herbs, miracle pills is that some patients use them INSTEAD of the real medication. Some even avoid real treatment when diagnosed, choosing the hyped "natural" stuff. When it doesnīt work (notice the WHEN, not an IF) they come back to their doctors. And itīs too late.

My neighboor had a friend with breast cancer. She decided NOT to follow treatment, and started to take something called "sun mushroom". When the thing started to grow to her lymph nodes, brain and other organs, she INCREASED her daily dosage of the useless fungus.

A wasted life, started with a very treatable condition, now... itīs a matter of time.

Take any placebo you want, but donīt use it INSTEAD of real medication.

cardoso,

As I hope you can see from my earlier post in this thread, I certainly did not endorse E_s_s_i_a_c Tea.

On the other hand, you seem to be lumping all alternative treatments into the area of placebo. Just because there are some questionable or even downright stupid "cures" out there, do you really believe that all alternatives are automatically worthless? There are cases of what we call alternative medicine in this country that are standard treatments in other advanced countries.

In the world of standard medicine we have had more than our share of Vioxx episodes over the years. This should not condemn all standard medicines.

I went to the FDA site and looked up E_S_S_I_A_C. I found a letter from a mother of a infant with terminal cancer. She faithfully gave it to the baby and within 2 months the infant had no sign of cancer. The placebo effect doesn't work on infants. She was pleading with the FDA to research it further. I think that there are alot of people waiting to take advantage of others. But the herbs are not difficult to find and not very costly if you make it yourself. Using it along with conventional treatment would only better your odds. Just food for thought.

Many of our family and friends have taken NONONONO to help in their fight against cancer with great results. I do believe that having belief in the chosen treatment method is half the battle. NONONONO does not work all the time, but it is worth investigating IMO. The herbs are all good for health at any rate.

One of the problems with reports of amazing cures is that cancer can spontaneously go into remission. A famous case in Glasgow was the woman diagnosed with breast cancer (terminal) who said "I can't die, I have a family to bring up". Six months later the doctors could find no trace of the disease.

Another problem is that (certainly of older cases) diagnosis may well have been wrong.

Magic bullets don't exist - yet. It may be that many of the touted "cures" will help the body in some way, but that isn't "curing". If someone feels they benefit from taking the tea under discussion, so be it; they may do equally well on cottage cheese and linseed, or on a strict vegan diet.

What I resent is the attempt to "sell" the product as a cure.
Take any placebo you want, but donīt use it INSTEAD of real medication.
After watching my father, father-in-law, and mother-in-law die from cancer while under the care of "real medicine", and then watching my wife go through two surgeries for cancer, I have very little faith in the present medical establishment.

The reality of cancer is that it is primarily cause by the toxic load we all carry in our bodies from the toxic world we live in. The second primary cause is a lack of nutrition we all suffer as a result of the Statndard American Diet which truly is SAD.

The fact of the matter is that there are numerous proven natural cures for cancer and if the FDA was truly interested in curing cancer they would allow these well-documented treatments in this country instead of black- balling them out of the country.

Considering the fact that chemical toxins are the root cause of cancer, it does not make a lot of sense to me to treat cancer with a toxic cocktail or radiation. Its Russian Roulette, kill the cancer, or kill the patient.

So called "real medicine" has a success rate of 5 years if they don't kill the patient during treatment. Natural Treatments success rate far exceeds this by years. Betty Ford is a good example, a 20+ year survivor after she embarrassed the American medical establishment and went to Mexico for treatment.

With that said, cancer is a serious matter, and although there are numerous natural cures, one needs to do adequate research and seek out the real doctors who live up to their oath to do no harm. Two excellent resources are "How to Fight Cancer and Win" by William L. Fischer and "Options - The Alternative Cancer Therapy Book" by Richard Walters.

The first step to battling cancer is to prevent it before it strikes. In our toxic world, studies show that we all are burdened with toxins in our bodies. We all need to detox our bodies. The body does wonders when it is allowed to function properly. http://personalhealthoptions.info covers both the need and viable solutions for detoxification.

Immune system boosters aren't perfect. Look around everywhere you can and find what is recommended, and what you think will work best for your type. But unless you're a doctor remember not to just go with what you think will work best. Listen to what other people have to say and I bet it will help.

Another immune system booster that is of interest is Sutherlandia from South Africa, where there is a great deal of research being carried out. It has had most interesting results with HIV sufferers - not a cure, but a means of prolonging life.

Since they do have such a large HIV problem in Africa and a lot of Africa is fairly poor I'm guessing that would be a good deal.
