I found a lump on the right side of my vulva. I found it 6 weeks ago and had it checked by my gyn. At that time, they put me on antibiotics and said to return if it didn't go away in 4 weeks. I returned 4 weeks later with no changes to the lump. At that time they examined me and said it could be a lymph node and to come back if it wasn't gone it 2 weeks. It is still there and I set up an appt. for next week. I am 34 years old and had a hysterectomy 3 years ago. The lump is not on the suface of the tissue. It is deeper and the gyn said they would have to remove it under gen anes. Has anyone ever heard of something like this. SHould I be freaked out??? Thanks....

vulvar cancer is not a common disease but there is such an entity. usually a biopsy is needed to confirm the diagnosis. a biopsy can be needle, core, or excisional. if the malignancy is confirmed, the physician should consider treatment to the inguinal lymph nodes too in addition to local surgery. i think your first step is to confirm the diagnosis with the gyn since the treatment of a malignant disease is very different from a benign cyst or tumor.
