My Partner had a melignant melanoma about 3 yrs ago and she is undergoing regular checkups every 6 months. We are also expecting our first baby in april.

We are trying to find out how if affects, if at all, the pregnancy. There is plenty of info on the web about finding a melanoma during pregnancy, but much less if it is regarding one in the past.

Any help / links / info on this would be apreciated.

Thanks

Having had melanoma in the past should not affect a pregnancy in any way - the main difficulties lie when invasive melanoma recurs within pregnancy because of the treatment of the mother and the effect on the foetus. Most doctors recommend waiting three years after treatment for melanoma before becoming pregnant because if melanoma does recur it is most likely to be within this time scale.

Many women I have cared for have gone on to have normal pregnancies and births after treatement for melanoma. Good luck Smile
