Hello and Holiday Greetings to everyone who has been reading or writing on this forum.

This is supposed to be a happy time of year and I am determined to make some sort of Christmas for the loved ones in my life. Yet, as most of you know, I buried my brother this past Thursday, December 21st, just 8 weeks from the date of his diagnosis, and I sure don't feel like celebrating anything.

In the past year, I have buried my mother, sent my son to war, nursed my partner through cancer, and buried my brother.

So I have decided on a few things for this holiday: I will fill people's stockings with hope, with fun, with as many jokes as I can find. I am only going where people are laughing and there are plenty of small shrieking children. I want to see lots of colored wrapping paper and big fat bows. I want the smell of turkey that has been roasting all morning. I want mistletoe hanging in doorways. I want dogs scrapping over a rawhide chew and I want cats climbing up a real balsam tree.

I care little for gifts this year, either giving or receiving. The fact that I am alive is enough to carry me through these days in the hopes that I can come out the other side with renewed hope for the future and with sorrow left behind in the old year.

I will miss those who have passed, miss them so very much it pains me to speak of it. Yet I know they suffer no more and that I will see them again. But not yet.

In closing I wish all of you patience to get through the season, hope that you won't hurt much longer, and the joy that comes from knowing and believing that you have done the best you can.

Big Sister Pat
