As of now i'm literally in tears, thinking of many implications and wondering about my visit to the doctor tomorrow. I'm a female, twenty years old, and afraid.

Hemorrhoids run in my family especially (my dad had to undergo surgery in his twenties for a severe case). Years back, after a bout of constipation I developed a small swelling that never left. Stooling after that wasn't exactly comfortable, but it was bearable (it hurt, but the pain, weirdly enough, never had much to do with the hemorrhoid). Several months ago I noticed a small streak of blood (bright red) after wiping, and reported this to the school nurse (i'm in college). She said not to worry since i've had hemorrhoids years before and that bleeding was fairly common. Stupid me, of course. I didn't worry, even when the slight bleeding recurred regularly for months after that.

Three days ago, after an unusual week of finding it really hard to go to the bathroom, I noticed the toilet bowl was covered in blood and my tissue wiped a lot off as well. My stool was not mixed with the blood however. Scared, I went to hospital. The doctor ran a hemoglobin count and examined me with gloves, and said that while my blood count was stable, I had anal fissures. She referred me to a family doctor who specializes in sigmoidoscopies and prescribed preparation h. Yesterday I went to the bathroom. There was no blood in the toilet bowl, but a considerable amount was in my tissue. Later that night, while putting in the preparation h, I felt another small swelling (or rather, blocking) within my anus. I still feel it in there, just at the edge of my anus. I've checked sites for info, and i've just recently come across cancer as being a possibility.

What's wrong with me? Do I have advanced symptoms of colon cancer? Was I stupid to have overlooked my symptoms months before? I'm so scared. I'm from europe (international student), and have not seen home or family in 2 years now (I do talk to them on the phone, and my dad knows of this). I don't have enough money for medical insurance if I do have cancer. In short, what are my chances, and what do I have to bring up at the doctor's visit tomorrow?

I'm so scared. I have a lot of goals (I'm taking the LSATs on febuary, planning for law school, etc), and I dont want to die before I fulfill any of them. I'm scared that it's too late. Please excuse the hurried writing. Thanks.

Hello Anonne,

First and foremost take a deep breath and breath away you fear. Fear does not do you (or anyone) any good. If you are to go on a healing journey you must focus on positive and drop the negative.

If you would like to know my history with Colorectal Cancer please read my posts (written by Iron). After all I have experienced I have changed my entire approach to healing, all kinds of healing. I have definitely changed my perception of conventional medicine. I can tell you in all honesty that if I knew then (at the point of making my decision to have surgery), I would elect NOT to have surgery. Having said that I encourage you to seek out every available form of medical diagnostics so that you are well informed as to what you do or do not have. Also get at least three opinions. With this information in hand you can make some informed decisions.

You have already lived with the discomfort of painful bowel movements. Ouch! I can relate. So to take the correct amount of time to diagnose and to set a treatment course should be a priority. When you speak with the different doctors take the information in and ask lots of questions. Don't get caught up in the emotion of it all, and most of all do not buy into their fear strategy. The most important thing for you now is to identify with certainty what is going on in your body.

Do not agree to instant surgery, meaning that you would be under the knife within a month. You need time to research, gather information and them make your decisions. The surgeons will want to get in there 'yesterday'. Unless you have life threatening (immediate) condition you should take your time and do it right, you only get one chance. Once the rectum or colon are removed they are gone forever. Let me tell you from experience abdominal surgery is the relatively easy part, the healing and adjusting to the altered internal anatomy is a real challenge.

So what would I have done different? I would have conducted more research on the alternative medicine side. I would have coped with my tumour, endured the painful bowel movements and saught out other treatments. The one that I would recommend to you is called "Journeywork". In general the Journey is an exploration of your own emotions, mainly the negative ones. The theory behind the Journeywork process is that negative emotions get stored in parts of our bodies. If unchecked and if severe enough they will cause disease. This is not a stretch for ones imagination. Just think of a time when you were subject to huge amounts of stress and within a day or two you were sick. The difference is that with cancer and other maladies the negative emotions are stored deep within the body as opposed to being manifested in a flu or cold.

Negative emotions stored internally are cummulative, in other words if your rectum is your storage for anger, then every significant anger event gets stored there. Over time more and more negative energy is collected there. Eventually the organ starts to fail in some manner. This then is the basis of Journeywork. I strongly suggest that you read the book "The Journey" by Brandon Bays. The author was diagnosed with a baskeball sized timour in her abdomen. Within six weeks her body healed itself. This treatment would be number one on my list if I were starting all over.

Of course there are several natural treatments that you should also research. Definitely an excellent nutritional and supplement plan is a must. Talk to as many practioners as you can to get a good overview of what is out there.

I realize that I am suggesting the unconventional. It is scary to go through it without knowing. What I am suggesting is to delay any kind of surgery for as long as you can while you seek out Journey work and other natural methods. Like I said earlier, once the surgeries are done there is no going back and you have to live with the consequences for the rest of your life.

I wish you peace and confidence while you go though your trials and tribulations. Know that there are many loving people that will support you no matter the choices you make. Stay focused on the good things and try to minimize the negative. Be brave. Know that you have created these circumstances to learn and to grow from.

I wish you all the best!
