Hi. My dad and I saw his Consultant today for some results from the Whipple surgery he had done 3 wks ago.

The outcome is that the tumour in the head of the pancreas was malignant but they removed it all together with lots of lymph nodes. The cancer had begun to spread in to only one of the lymph nodes and no further. Apparently the tumour was positioned in the head of the pancreas but towards dad's back and so not near to other vital organs. It was near to major blood vessels and then the spine. He told us that as pancreatic cancer sometimes reoccurs he advises dad to have chemo once discharged from hospital. He will get an appt to see an Oncologist a couple of weeks after going home.

I know I should be feeling relief and maybe even joy over what we found out today, but I just feel numb and empty. Maybe its because I know that the 5 yr survival rate for PC even after successful surgery and chemo is less that 20% - I haven't told dad this tho!!!!!! I should be feeling happy but I can't say I do. Dad broke down after the doctor left us and he really sobbed - I guess it had to come out. I just hugged him and cried too.

Just which I could work out my feelings.
