Hello to everyone,
I would very much appreciate it if you could provide me some explanations and advices about my father's the early diagnosed PC.
He's 75 yo, in excellent overall health. His PSA is 10.5, gleason 8, stage T2b. Both bone scan and MRI were clear. He's now on hormone therapy (Casodex) and in a few days he'll start a row of 35 radiations.

Q1: Why radiation and not seed implants? Because of his stage? Doctor doesn't explain clearly
Q2: What is AIPC? Is it the same with Hormone Refractory PC?
Q3: What about triple Leibowitz protocol?

Please mention, anything else you consider as important.
Thank you all in advance

G8 is a high risk cancer.

1: Seeds are a local treatment not usually used for more agressive PC.

With greater risk, treatment is expanded with use of hormones which can be for six months or more to kill cancer cells in the system, and agressive local radiation treatment.

2: AIPC and Hormone Refactory are similar terms.

3: Dr Leibowitz claims good results. I believe that he does not use radiation therapy, so his protocol is a separate stand alone hormone treatment.

When you say "He's now on "hormone therapy (casodex)" , I thought a usual hormone therapy was, for example, Casodex in addition to Lupron or Zoladex, which could be something to ask your doctor about.

I don't know full details, or extent of his hormone treatment.

As you are going down the path of hormones and radiation, personally I'd be seriously considering the agressive option of full hormone treatment before during and after radiation (if that's not already the case).

John
