My mom was diagnosed with stage 4 glioblastoma just under two weeks ago. She underwent brain surgery, where they were only able to remove half of her tumor. Obviously we are looking at a very grave outlook, doctors ahev mentioned months, some weeks. we are looking at Sloane-Kettering for 6 weeks of radiation and chemotherapy daily. Are there any radical treatment trials out there that I have not heard of? Do any of these trials offer any hope for a longer survival rate? Has anyone had any experience with Sloane-Kettering in NYC?
As you all know it is very overwhelming. My dad is recovering from a cerebral hemmorage and I have a much younger brother, time is what we are hoping for, as I know any kind of a cure is far beyond hope or realism.
Any information that anyone can pass on to me would be wonderful and most helpful.
Thank you so much for all of your stories and both realistic and hopeful outlooks. Hopefully your stength will come through this forum too. |

Ceeparadox,
Some others would probably be better at answering your question than me. I want to welcome you to the forum and let you know that there is a great group on here and we are all at different points of going through the journey you about to begin. If you need a shoulder--we are here. I wish you the best of outcomes, and time of good quality of life.

Hi Ceeparadox
My dad was diagnosed with a grade 4 Gliobastoma 2 weeks ago ( 9th March). They have done surgery and removed 87% of the tumour. He is due to start chemo and radiation therapy shortly. Yes this is certainly overwhelming, and one feels pretty helpless. Keep posting regarding your moms progress.I wish you much strength and I will be with you on this journey.
Regards

Dear Ceeparadox,
Sorry to have you here on the forum, but at least now that you are on board, I can only echo Michele's words, we' ll all be here for you to get some relief.
As you can read in one of my earlier postings, cilengitide seems to show very good results in GBM clinical trials, phase II studies ended and they will move into phase III.
You may try to contact Dr. David Reardon at Duke who'll present the phase II results in July at the conference of the American Society of Clinical Oncology in Chicago.
Keep up and spend as much time with your Mom as you can.
You're in my prayers.

hello,
have you asked about Avastin? This is a drug that cuts the blood supply to the tumor and can shrink existing tumors. I think it's worth asking , and if necessary, get second opinions if your dr say no.
I know someone that had a reoccurrence and is taking temador and avastin and they are still around - it has been 1 1/2 yrs, so worth asking about this drug as well
