My dad was diagnosed last week with glio stage 4. We are all devestated. A rollercoaster of emotions; up one minute and down the next.

Right now I feel no hope. He is 60, overweight, diabetic...and now this. Reading the post made me feel better.

Hi John,

Hope you don't mind that I spit your post off from the others.

I am very sorry about your father. Sad My mother died due to a GBM stage 4 almost 9 years ago. It is a unemotional as well as physical rollercoaster. I am myself a oligodenodoglioma stage 3 survivor. Unfortunately, we are not a very large "club."

Here are my advices to you:

1. Become as informed as you can be. Your father may not want as much information as you will need in order to help him.

2. Keep a medical journal for your father. List all of his doctors, their specialties, and phone numbers. List all of his medications and dosages (you will be asked for this information over and over). Keep track of his blood counts. Keep track of his moods.

3. Help your father to realize that he IS still living. Try to make every day count.

Keep us informed. I will be thinking and praying for you and your father.

Hi Banshee,

Im really sorry to hear about your dad. I lost my lovely mum to a GBM grade 4 two months ago. Its a terribly hard ordeal to go through.

I coped because we pulled together as a family, also the love and support I found on this forum was invaluable.

We will all be thinking of you.

Best wishes xxx Jen

John,
My dad also had GBM. I second what Jim says. Try to find happiness and joy and memories in the time your dad still has. The memories from those last months are so precious to me. I hope we are able to be a support to you as you start this journey.

Michele

Sometimes it helps just to talk and know you are not alone.
Spend the time with your Dad just being with him!!!! Loving him!! Talking with him!!! Praying with him!!!!

Dear John

Sorry to hear about your dad. we are going through this with my dad aged 66. This is a dreadful cancer, and you are right it is a rollercoaster emotionally.

I have made lots of time to be with my dad over the past 3 months, I have gone to his treatment sessions, spoken about the past and future, how i feel about him etc. I can look back on the time we have had and have no regrets. You need to make every moment count.

Good luck and I hope that your dad is one of the lucky ones.
