Hi Everyone,

I just deleted a new member's account because it contained a potentially dangerous threat. In order to read his/her website, you needed to download a program. The problem was that once you clicked on his/her website you got stuck... the option NOT to download the program just returned you to the same message. I literally had to turn my computer off and back on to access the forum and delete him/her account from the site. So, be warned. Unless you really trust someone, do not visit their sites and do not download any programs that may be required to read their websites.

I have a cooperate level firewall/spam/virus protection. Believe me, if I delete it, it is bad. I do not test each and every link posted to this forum, but if I have problems with one, you will too. Most of the links I delete are links to porn sites. The one that this thread addresses is a very specific, known virus that is very difficult to find and eliminate. Once you click on the link, you are stuck. There is no way to not download it other than to turn off your computer and then try to locate the virus. Even after you have located the virus, it is not easy to remove it because it has infected a system required file. Either you know what you are doing or you end up having to reinstall Windows.

Goldring, trust me, I do not randomly delete website links from the forum.

Be careful is my message.

Brainman,
I actually a Moderator on another forum (unrelated to this one), that is there for people who have a genuine problem.
Unfortunately just about every day there is a new list of non-genuine members -who are there just to put up a web-site.
I would probably on average delete 3 or 4 posts a week.
The common spammers relate to on-line pharmacy (especially impotency drugs) ,as well as porn.
As you suggested, never press on their web-sites unless they are known to be valid ones.

Hi,
I use to post here until my computer crashed and just now found the site again. Is Leo still coming on the boards from time to time?

I also got caught by a bad link on this forum. It changed some
settings on my computer at work and I had to get I.T. to fix
it for me. It changed the Proxy settings, but no other damage
that I know of. I could not get on line until these settings were fixed.

I feel that one day the internet may become unusable as there
will be too many ways out there to turn you computer to a
nothing but a piece of furniture.

Why does anyone want to do this ???

I guess they are sick- ooos.

I think this warning should be repeated. As I went through the website of members who joined this forum today (6/8/2007), my coorporate grade firewall caught two new websites that were trying to access information from my computer. With one, the only way to stop it was to turn off my computer. I am currently running my anti-virus and anti-spyware programs to make sure that no traises are left of either of these website "viruses." I try to check each new member. However, you need to be cautious when visiting other websites.

I also found three (3) porn websites. In other words, be careful when you visit other sites. If I sound a little paranoid it is because people are really after us Sad

and you now have another menace, a spammer "phantom...." posted 30 bogus spam posts last night.

Does the software allow you to delete all the posts of a "member"?
