Since the word "cancer" was originally dropped on me as a possibility, my family and I have been talking to a lot of people. My Mother was referred to this Naturalist by her boyfriend. He says he has pills, as well as diet guidelines based on your blood type that suggests what food word for you, and don't work for you in your fight to eliminate cancer. Now that it has confirmed that I have Lymphoma, thoughts of chemotherapy terrify me. All the bad experiences I have heard or read about is quite scary.

Anyway, I haven't spoke to this Naturalist myself, and I am a bit skeptical. I know there have been success stories of fighting off cancer with alternative (and perhaps not even Doctor recommended) treatment. I was wondering if anyone with Lymphoma has tried alternatives to chemo or radiation therapy, and how did it work out?

BJK, I am so sorry you have Lymphoma! While I do not have lymphoma and little experience with alternative medicine, I would encourage you to go with standard chemotherapy and add alternative medicine under the supervision of your oncologist. I advise against a Naturalist except to obtain suggestions about alternative medicines that you can use. Most of them are anti-standard chemo and will try to sell you on their ill-supported pet plants or products. Most oncologist are at least open to the subject of possible health benefits of adding complementary treatments to your diet. In the USA, most licensing organization have as one of their requirements is: Does the doctor ask the patient about nutritional supplements the patient it taking?

My personal opinion about alternative medicine is best expressed in the following link:

I have Non-Hogkins Lymphoma and has just started my chemo. I'm in good health otherwise and 30 years old, so the treatment won't be so hard on me.

I'm half Chinese/ Swedish and my Chinese grandmother was cured from stomach cancer with Chinese medicine some 10 years ago, so I've always had the attitude that if I were to become that sick I'd want to be treated with Chinese medicine, since there's no side effects and the deceases goes away like a miracle.

When I got the news that I got cancer a little more than a month ago I kind of panicked since my doctors thought I had Maling at first and that's no good news. I thought that I don't have time for a second opinion and I felt that -why do I want to gamble with my life anyway?

I live in Germany and am now treated at a university hospital by a board of doctors and I feel safe and they give me medication to not feel so ill from the chemo. Things are changing by the day and the treatments gets better and better.

I think that if you have a deadly decease and have good chances of getting cured, then why gamble? The chemo will make you well again within months and it won't be too bad. Don't be scared. Talk to your doctors and take one day at a time.

Like with everything else -don't listen to stories too much. A lot of people tend to exaggerate to get more empathy. The only thing that matters is that you're going to get healthy again!

Big hugs to you!!
