My son has had 8 chemo treatements and went to see his polmanary dr. today and she heard some wheezing in his lungs and wanted to do a chest x-ray and we asked if she would do a ct scan because he has not had one in 3 months. So we could compare how much the mass in his chest has shrunk. So when we saw the new ct scan there was no difference in the size at all. She did not no why and said to ask his oncologist when he gets back in town. Just wondering if anyone might no why there would be no difference after 8 chemo treatments.

my son's oncologist is on vacation , and my son will see him on monday, but it seems like the mass is not responding to the chemo.he is feeling sick with flu like symtoms and drenching night sweats, he gets red in the face and then very pale. and in the past 5 months he has put on 65 pounds. after 8 chemo treatments why has'nt the mass in his chest gotton smaller?

Hi, worriedmom,
How unbelievably frustrating [complete understatement] this news must be for you and your son!

Do you think you will be okay waiting until next Monday? Does the oncologist have partners in her/his practice? What kinds of out-of-town procedures does she/he have? I would consider calling the office and asking to see another oncologist if there is another one on staff; even tho' a different doctor might not be familiar with your son's case history, it might help to get a 'second' opinion, at least until your son's doc returns from vacation. I know there can be insurance complications seeing another doctor, (bureaucratic insurance referral red tape) so you should check into that, too.

I am sorry for what is happening and wish you and your son only the very best.

As always, you and your son are in my thoughts and prayers,
Jessica

thank you for your prayers jessica, we live in a small town in arizona, the dr. does not have a partner. my son had a bronch- endoscope today because his pulmonary dr. was concerned about his lungs, she sent some cultures in (we will have to wait for results on those) and said his lungs looked inflamed. so i guess we wait until his dr. comes back from vacation.he'll see him on 7-30-07.
