started with a PSA of 5.1 and a free psa of .15. 12 biopsies were done and all negative 3 mnths ago. I was told I had calcified prostititus and needed to be rechecked every 3 months. Just went last week and my PSA has risen to 9.1 in 3 months and my other levels were bad. I see the doctor in 2 days, but God knows I could use some advice in understanding all this. thank you

I'm in the same boat as you. I expect the doc will want you to have another biopsy. Ask him about a "saturation" biopsy. I one 5 months ago and 30 cores were taken. No cancer found again. The first biospy was in the doctors office and 12 core. My Udoc says that he and his colleagues have a handful of patients that have high PSA's, but they can't find any cancer. "So what's causing that ?", I asked. "I don't know", he said.

The Udocs are mystified sometimes. Someone with a PSA of 2 has a verifiable cancer and someone with a PSA of 10 has no "detectable" cancer.

What a pain in the ass this is. (or is that prostate ?)

trjam, there are known cases of individuals with my higher PSA levels but no cancer can be detected... I mean in the 20+ range. Add on top of that the extreme difficulty of biopsying Prostate Cancer and you get a very confusing situation. As Chris suggested, you might want to have a saturation biopsy. That way the odds of finding the cancer (if it is there) will increase.

There are other causes for high PSA levels. Free PSA is more exact. Follow its trend. Is it going up too?

Best wishes.
