I am new to this site and we are now awaiting results from my mother-in-law's biopsy. She has been sick for many months. Her PCP was saying that she just had allergies, then she developed a lump on her parotid gland. She got so sick that she ended up in the hospital they gave her a picc line and said that it was an unknown staph infection. They gave her IV antibiotics that cleared up the staph infection, but did nothing for the lump, it just keeps getting worse. The doctors did a biopsy, they said it is just an infection, so they gave her more antibiotics...it didn't work it just made her sicker. They did daily blood work on her and her white cells are very elevated, so then they took her off the antibiotics. Still her white blood cell count was elevated. She was getting worse and worse, so we insisted that she see another doctor thru Pittsburgh(UPMC). They have done another biopsy and we are awaiting the results. The doctors have said they believe one thing that is happening is that she has Autoimmune problems. I have researched this and I am not sure what to think. A lot of things come back lymphoma or sjergen's syndrome. Has anyone ever gone thru this that could give me some sort of advice. I would like to be prepared for anything at this point.
Thank You,
