Hi,
my father has been diagnosed with liver metastases from prostate cancer. Originally prostate cancer was treated with surgery 15 years ago and now he has liver metastases. He is receiving treatment with Chemotherapy. Is there any hope for him, he is only 66. Thank you. |

kappersack, I moved your post to the prostate cancer forum since that is what your father has.
I am truly sorry about your father's metastatic prostate cancer. He has survived for 15 years? That is awesome! It means that he has a strong will to live. If he maintains his courage, he could live a lot longer. I am not sure what his "official" prognosis is. However, he (and I) have already lived longer than our initial prognoses. I should have died at least 5 years ago but here I am .
Try to make the most out of every day... you never know what day might be your last.
You and your father are in my thoughts and prayers. _________________ Jim

I am sorry to hear about your father. I am curious to know that when your father was treated for PC 15 years ago, was it with radiation or was his prostate removed with surgery. _________________ Biospy 4/2007 - 2/12 <%5 Cancer Gleason 6

| thank you for your supportive words. My fahter had his prostate removed surgically it was almost 16 years ago. Again today he as admitted to the hospital because he so weak and is not eating. They are giving hm another round of Chemotherapy. After the 1st six treatment the tumor in his liver actually shrunk a little but increased in size again after a few months. It is a difficult time, he is only 67. |

Do you know if your father received hormone (androgen deprivation) therapy? That's usually tried before chemo.
Things sound very serious indeed, but I don't think we know enough to tell you if there is reason to hope for remission or not.
My thoughts are with you and your father.
Best wishes. _________________ Replicant

Hi,
my father was released from the hospital. After having complications from Chemotherapy (low white blood count etc) he was told there is nothing else they can do for him. It is so devastating. My mother talked to the doctor and there is no hope. I dont know what that means. How long does he have. If they cant give him Chemo for the liver metastases what is going to happen. I am so worried, he is in Germany and I live in the States. |

| To answer your question, yes he did receive hormone therapy for many, many years until it became ref. He also received radiation and then Chemo for 8 months. At the beginning the tumors in his liver responded well to Chemo and actually shrunk. But now they have enlarged again. I think I am going to fly home to see him within the next weeks. Thanks for your support. |

| After 16 years of fighting prostate cancer, my father is not expected to live much longer. He fought all the way to the end. I am so proud of him. |

| Thank you so much for your kind words. This site is very supportive and I hope that others will keep their hope. My father was so strong and positive thru out his fight against prostate cancer. He knew that eventually he would lose the battle, but for 16 years he never gave up. He now wishes he would have never taken Taxotere. He might lived a few months less but his quality of life diminished after the first 3to 6 treatments. His liver tumors never stopped growing and he is in his final stage now. (A nurse told us it woud probably be just hours). I am devastated and relieved at the same time. He is truly suffering at this time. He cannot get ouf of bed, roll over, eat , drink. He is not in pain but I hope it wont be a long struggle for him. Seeing him like this, and what cancer and Chemo can do to a person, is so painful. Again thank you for your supportive words and good luck with everything. |

| My father passed away this morning. His last weeks were very painful and he struggled a lot. He went peacefully. He made it 16 years with prostate cancer. His doctors in Germany told him he was leading the statistic there. Please keep him in your prayers. Thank you. |
