Hi All
I am just fed up to be honest, and I really need some help. I have looked for weeks and weeks on the internet, and I cannot help my mum.
My mum was diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer in February 08. She underwent the Whipples operation, but during the procedure the surgeon found a cancer nodule in the liver. He also confirmed that 5 of 12 lymph nodes were infected with cancer cells. 2 month laters we had a CT scan, and she had multiple tumours in liver. We have undergone Ozone treatment, and Ukrain (herbal chemo with high success rate), but nothing has helped. She had another CT scan and she has more tumours in the liver now.
What can I do? I want her to live, but I dont know what to do. Liver transplant is out apparently as she has a secondary cancer from pancreas. I dont care what it costs, and whether it is new or not, what can I do to help to beat this. I dont want her to have a few months left.
She is not on chemo. Can you she have any surgery, transplant, liver resection etc. If there any treatment out there that works wonders. The ccst can be millions, I will work & work until shes better.
Or am i being silly, and should she have chemo, and we should accept 1-2 years? She is also taking Ukrain - has anyone heard of this?

Sorry to read of your mother's problems.
Firstly, as you say, liver replacement where metastatic cancer is involved is not an option, since the cancer cells have travelled beyond the primary site.
Secondly, you do need to discuss properly with the medical team the full range of possible treatments, allopathic as well as alternative and complementary. None may lead to a cure, but she may well have a longer life than she might otherwise have.
I hope you get other responses soon. |

Jamie, I am very sorry about your mother's Pancreatic Cancer. Pancreatic Cancer is one of the worst cancers a person can have because of its wide range of symptoms, it poor prognosis, its aggressive nature, and because there are so few treatment options that work for very long. It does sound she is receiving aggressive treatment and that is exactly what she need. I wish I did have some new treatment that your mother's oncologists have not thought about.
Having said that, let me give you my take on prognosis. Prognosis is just a statistical probability. Yes, your mother *probably* only has months or a couple of years left in her live. But if my prognosis had been correct, I would have died at least 5 years ago. I do like to know my prognosis but only in order to set priorities for the things a still would like to do with whatever time I have. But after I set those priorities, I try to live one day at a time working to achieve my "bucket list." Let us say that your mother only has 1 year to live. What would she like to still do in that time? Are there any old friends she would like to see? Places she would like to go?.... The list can go on and on. Jamie, you can help your mother by helping her identify those things and then helping her achieve them. You might also be thinking about things YOU would like to do with your mother. I know that I wish I had gone over my parent's books and books of old, unidentified pictures and asked: "Who is this?" I do not think this is the same as "accepting 1-2 years." It is living your life to its fullest... however long it is.
You and your mother are in my thoughts and prayers. _________________ Jim
