Hi,
The oncologist was right. Mom had her colonoscopy today. The colonoscopy showed no cancer in the colon. We were happy to hear that! We are still awaiting the MRI results of the brain. We will get those on Friday when Mom goes in for a follow-up with the oncologist.

It's tough dealing with both parents having cancer. I never dreamed this would happen.

Oh Kristi!!

How can this be happening?? I'm just so very sorry and have no words to express my heart to you. I've seen this happen to another couple when my husband was undergoing treatment, but it must be a rare thing.

God bless and keep us posted. You and your parents will be in my thoughts.

Hugs,
PBJ

Dear Kristi,
I have been reading your post and I want to say how sad I feel for you. It is hard to imagine how you can be coping with two parents with cancer. It is good that you are at home and that there is so much support offered to you. I want you to know that you are in my thoughts and prayers, God Bless you and your family, koik

Just gotta deal with it all. It's tough but we will manage.

If that isn't enough, we received some news that we were hoping that could be held off a little longer. My oldest brother needs a kidney transplant. My middle brother is a perfect match and will be his donor. My brother was told two years ago that it would be 18 to 24 months before he needed a transplant. It's now two years and I guess we are looking at transplant in the next couple of months. I am going to start getting things arranged now so I will have some backup when the transplant comes around. My middle brother will be out of commission for a couple of weeks and my oldest brother will be out for several weeks. Mu sister-in-law will need to be there for my oldest brother.

My Goodness me, I am surprised you haven't cracked up? I really am so sad to read the news regarding your brothers transplants, I cannot imagine how you are all coping.
You are obviously holding everything together. Don't forget to have time for yourself Kristi, let your tears flow sometimes otherwise it will end up making you ill as well. Eat well and get as much rest as possible and talk to your hearts content, you really are a Saint to be able to cope so far. Keep us informed and as well as your parents are in my prayers with you, so are your brothers. God Bless you, koik

We got the results from the brain MRI. No mets to the brain. YAY Smile The official diagnosis is non-small cell lung cancer. That cancer has spread to one or two lymph nodes.

Once the financial officer checks out the insurance, Mom's treatment should begin. She has the same insurance as my dad so that should not be a problem. They both have Medicare plus Blue Cross Blue Shield. Mom's treatment will consist if chemo for now. She will have carboplatin/taxotere/Avastin. Her treatment will be once every three weeks. Mom will have four to six rounds. She will have scans after the second round. Mom gets her port on Wed., June 4th. Looks like she will start her chemo on June 16th. Mom will meet with the nurse practitioner. That appt. will get set up before chemo starts.

I try to take time for myself each day. That's why I spend a lot of time at the computer. Smile I had a lot of surgeries in the first 35 years of my life. I am going to be 44 next month. My parents gave me a lot of coping tools. They have really helped me out.

Believe me.... I haven't cried so much in my life as I did from April 28th to May 13th. I have to keep myself going. Sitting around and being depressed is not going to help anyone.

Yes, I need to take better care of myself. That's why some things do not get done. I am not running myself into the ground. A two-hour nap does a body wonders. Smile I need to work but there's no way I can for now. If I had had a job, I would have quit.

If I could give my dad a better personality and attitude adjustment, I would even be better. Smile

Hi Kristi, I thought i would say hello to you on your post and ask you "How are you doing"? You are such a caring person and contributing to the forum and at the same time going through the hell of both parents with cancer. How about we send you our love and prayers and you fill us in on how your mum and dad is doing...PS don't forget your brother? The birthday obviously passed but of course could not of been so pleasant with the worries you have right now, lets hope your future can get brighter as with 35years of your life also having surgery isn't much fun either! Many hugs to you too, God Bless Koik

Good thoughts and prayers always welcome. Smile They are very much appreciated. Smile

I had a really good time Friday night. I got a chance to go out with friends. Smile It was great. Smile I have spent time doing laundry this weekend. I try to limit myself on how much I do.

Gotta run, Mom needs me.

Kristi,

Good to hear you were able to get out and have a little fun. Always seems just a little easier to handle the load after a nice time. I'm happy for you.

Laundry? Yes, that's fun too. Rolling Eyes

Hang in there and God love you.

As far as the laundry goes, it's not bad now that I am caught up. Smile

There are only four of us who live here full-time. Sometimes my brother has his two girls. They are old enough to take care of themselves. Besides I have them help me with some things. That helps a lot. Smile

Koik,
Dishwashers are great. Smile Rinse the silverware, glasses, plates, and dishes off and put them in the dishwasher. Smile It doesn't take long to put it away. Smile

Mom has an appt. in the morning and Dad has an appt. early Tues. afternoon. Somewhere in there, an occupational therapist is coming to do an evaluation on my dad. It's basically a safety check and see how my dad manages around the house.
