Hi, I'd like to know, is it possible/how likely that someone with early stage lymphoma (esp. NHL) has only abdominal lymph nodes swollen, while lymph nodes elsewhere remain normal size? Has anyone diagnosed with this disease experienced such, or heard of it? (most cases seem to be swollen lymph nodes in neck, armpit or groin)

Thanks in advance

Wow you are like my twin.
I have had swollen abdominal lymph nodes for almost a year now and Im still pressuring the doctors to dig deeper. I never had them anywhere else but recently have noticed one in my left groin.

Keep me updated and it would be wonderful if you PMed me a list of your symptoms!

Hi Inica, sorry I was so busy these days... I saw had an ultrasound but it didn't find anything abnormal, yet I have come to believe there must be something wrong because there are two almost symmetric lump-like masses to the upper left/right (about 3" from) my belly button, one of which hurts sometimes--when I press it or sometimes even without touching it. The pain is like brief shooting/stabbing pains. TuesdayK, I don't have any other symptoms. What could it be? I did much research but haven't found any condition matching these symptoms, especially the sites of the masses--could they be enlarged lymph nodes or some growths? If they are, the ultrasound didn't detect them. Is MRI or CT a better next test?

Hi Kelly

You really should try and stop diagnosing yourself, all you are doing is winding yourself up for no reason. I am a nurse with 35 years work experience in the medical profession and I wouldn't dream of trying to make my own diagnosis and you shouldn't either.

For your information the only way to get a clear diagnosis of lymphoma is by a biopsy, there is no other way. CT and MRI scans are only good for seeing how well the treatment is working. Ultrasound is of no use in diagnosing lymphoma at all. Also lymphoma can start outside of nodes , in those cases it is known as extra nodal disease and it can happen in the abdominal area but the tumours do not move, as you have stated yours do.

From your posts I get the impression your doctors are not nearly as concerned as you are about your condition. I would take my cues from the doctors here. Relax Kelly and start enjoying your life rather than worrying about what you may or may not have, leave that to the doctors. Start worrying if and when you get a firm diagnosis, life is short , don't spend the rest of it in fear.

Cheers and good luck, and please relax and enjoy Smile

Hi ChemoMan Smile , thank you so much for your post! You said it so well. Yes I shouldn't be diagnosing myself without much knowledge. I'm now hoping to have another screening, either MRI or a CT. I have to wait for some days for that. For now, I'm going to stop speculating what it could be. As you said, tumors don't move, so maybe my case is not too serious. ChemoMan, you have very good outlook of life, which is so important for getting recovery. I hope you are in good hands and have great doctors to work with you. My very best wishes to you for getting healthy again! Very Happy
