my husband was diagnosed with tonsillar cancer last year in july (2003). He had all good check-ups until augst 2004 when they found cancer in his lungs and now he has cancer in the breast bone and possibly rib and hip. Why is this called recurrent tonsillar cancer? the nurse said it is squamous cell carcinoma. What is this ? I am having trouble asking about the prognosis or even the grading .I can't seem to find informaton on the web that I can understand about this. please help.

Hello,

Thanks for posting. I am sorry to hear about your husband. Squamous cell carcinoma is the histologic diagnosis, what they see under the microscope. For example, a breast cancer is often adenocarcinoma, so adenocarcinoma is what they see under the microscope.

Anyway, squamous cell carcinoma is a common type of cancer from the head and neck. If you look about information on head and neck cancers you will find the info you are looking for.

regards.
