hello all
The way I see it there are only 3 types of of anti cancer medicines. There are those we know that work, there are those we are not sure of and then there are those we know do not work.
My suggestion is that we drop the 'Alternative" tag to this forum because there are no alternatives there are only the 3 that I have mentioned.
what do you think ?? _________________ Age 52

I understand where you are coming from. However, Western Medicine (scientifically proven) is not always the only helpful option. This forum is a place to talk about those other options as well as to discuss helpful complementary options such as juices and vitamins. This does not mean that this forum is where "snake oil" salespersons can come to post their latest and greatest "discovery."
I liked your warning on another forum about the FDA's warnings. Those apply to this and all other forums. _________________ Jim

Although I totally agree with Chemoman -- CAM (Complementary Alternative Medicine) is a standardized term. Many are hyped, and it is few and far between that have been shown to work once cancer has arrived at your doorstep. I am vigilant about the snake oil salesmen aspect of CAM and usually direct people who want to dabble in non-traditional usage to this website at Sloan-Kettering: http://www.mskcc.org/mskcc/html/11570.cfm
I'm not fond of people holding out some hopeful "out there" remedy when traditional chemotherapy/radiation IS treating the cancer.
God love you Chemoman. I appreciate your take on this very touchy issue. Millions are made off of desperate people every year by the people that tout supplements and herbs that have no scientifically proven track record.

I think the problem with the way "you see it" Chemo Man is very narrow minded and with blinders on. If you don't want to discuss the possibilites of alternative or complimentary medicine then you should not read the posts that are in this forum.
I for one enjoy being able to gather information from a broad base of knowledge on alternatives and it is forums like this one that help me do just that.
I am very happy to hear that Chemo has given you a new lease on life however there are other people out there that are trying very hard to beat a cancer and Western Medicine does not offer very good statistics on their survival. I need to stop this post now before I get tossed off of the forum.
I really think you should just not read the posts on this forum because you are so dead set against alternative options.
Enjoy your day.

Hi Paul
On the contrary I am very open minded. I do not automatically rant against a particular medicine until I have proof it is harmful. Harm can be either direct harm to the body, as say black salve, or harm could simply be the harm done to ones financial situation by purchasing expensive medicines that don't work, especially as we slowly drift into the worst economic disaster since 1930. From time to time if you check my posts, you can see that I will link to pages which promote medicines that fall into the second category I mentioned ' those that we are not sure of'
I'm sorry Paul if my need for scientific proof and lots of data to back up a medicines claim offends you. I will however continue to rail against criminals who take advantage of people when they are down. Science is about getting verifiable data and lots of it, so anecdotal evidence doesn't cut the mustard with me.
There are NO alternative medicines. They work or they don't and of course there are those we are not sure of. There are however complimentary medicines that one can obtain at a reasonable cost and have shown some benefits.

Hi PBJ

I really didn't know that. A bit of a shame really. I personally think it should simply be CM. I can see the honeypot theory at work here and maybe it is a good thing to keep it as CAM
Thanks pbj _________________ Age 52

From where I sit, CAM is being replaced with CIM - whereby "integrative" replaces the "alternative."
In fact, I just attended a pancan symposium this past Sat in Dallas at Gilda's House where they talked about this very subject. Here's an example of where it is happening in academia:

Perhaps this forum may want to reconsider going forward? Food for thought.... |
