Son has a swollen gland on the right side of his neck What is this ?

Son was complaining of a sore throat around the end of March/05. When I looked at his throat an infection sore appeared on the right side of his throat. I took him to the Doctor and she prescribed an antibiotic put he didn't take the medication. Now it is June and his gland is still swollen. I took him to the doctor and another prescription was prescribed put he isn't taking them as prescribed on the medication bottle.

I am so worried and afraid that it might be cancer.

First u gotta help your son. You have to make sure he takes his medication as instructed by the doctor. Then watch the result. If it the anti-B don't work, it means it is not an infection. It could be cancer, the disease that everyone is so afraid of.

You may go for a blood test or a bipsy. Your Dr should be able to advice u. Don't procrastinate. I had stage 2 lymphoma - I finished treatment last year. I waited..... if I didn't wait.... ( I was telling myself it was an infection etc.... trying to be my own doctor!!!) Some friends saw the swell on my neck grew bigger. They pulled me to the hospital and accompanied me.

I have them to thank coz I could have WAITED... and waited...... hoping the swell will go away.. it could have been stage 3 or 4.. ie. spread to other organs.. and that would be harder to treat.....

Please go see a specialist and make sure ur son takes the medication. Good luck.

Psycho yourself to not worry, as worry is destructive, u won't achieve anything by worrying. I took the news very well... and I told myself, I am luck to get lymphoma, which is v treatable..... it would be much worse if liver, or breat or ovarian etc... cancer. So look on the brighter side. Don't worry unneccessary unless it is CONFIRMED>

Even tho confirmed..... there is still cure..... believe in your doctors....
