Well, we've been on a bit of a roller coaster ride for the last couple of weeks. Lindsay had her routine MRI 6 months after the previous one and we were told that there had been some changes. We had viewed her recent MRI ourselves and saw the white mass and were surprised it was so large and thought the worst. We met with the radiologist who told us it was mostly fluid and swelling and that the tumor was just in a small area and we were greatly relieved. The surgeon who operated on our daughter 9 months ago said that he wouldn't recommend doing surgery because the tumor is too close to the corpus callosum. We had decided long ago that if it returned, we were going to the top Cancer Center in the area for a 2nd opinion. We had the appointments last week with a neuro oncologist and a neuro surgeon at the University (who only operates on brain tumors and nothing else) and were told that the whole area that is showing up white in the MRI IS tumor...about the size of a small lemon! He said they actually only removed a tiny bit of the tumor in the first surgery which is interesting since they called it a total resection. Even when we look at the MRI taken at 3 mos. post op, you can tell it was still there. This is unbelievable to us but this is where we're at now. Lindsay is having surgery next Thur. to remove the portion that the tumor has infiltrated. We won't know until he gets in there if he can remove all of it but we're sure praying he can! Will update on Thurs. but sure appreciate the prayers for a safe surgery.
Take care!

We made it through surgery and here are portions of the updates we sent out:
Thursday--We just met with the Dr, Surgery ended at 12:32 and he said it all went as expected, no surprises. Her previous surgery left some excess scarring and odd bumps in the scar on her scalp. He said he fixed that so she would be even more beautiful than before. He was confident that he got all the tumor material as well as the part that was in the corpus callosum. She will be in recovery for an hour and a half, get a ct scan and then move to the 5th floor ICU. Tomorrow she will be in a regular room and recieve an MRI before talking about release. The material was sent to pathology for review and grading, we should have the results in a week or so.
Friday AM--It just dawned on me that we hadn't sent an update after seeing Lindsay so here's the good report. We got to see Lindsay while she was still in the recovery room and she was awake and talking. The first thing she said to us was, "I can still think!" She is totally herself with no deficits whatsoever. The only issue we had was some problems with vomiting for several hours but that is gone now and she's eating real food. This morning I was sitting in the ICU waiting area when her nurse came up to me...my heart dropped...until I looked further and there stands Lindsay! Her nurse said she wanted to surprise us and practically came running out. We're getting ready to move her out of ICU and into her own room which will be nicer since more than 2 people can go in at a time. She had her post op MRI and we're just waiting for the nurse to read us the report. She looks great!
Friday PM--We just met with the Doctors again and they are pleased with how well she's doing. She has a bit of a persistant headache which is normal so soon after surgery and they're giving her some meds that should help. She's been up walking around all day and is rather witty. In a short while, they will be moving her to her own room for the night. She will get one more MRI and bandages taken off tomorrow before they turn her loose in the afternoon. On Wed., we'll be meeting with the doctors to discuss pathology results and if any further treatment is necessary.
We are certain that Lindsay's excellent progress is the result of Gods grace, mercy and the faithfulness of those who have prayed us through. Thank you.
