Hi there,

My mom was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer about a week ago. Since it partially encases the SMA and SMV, surgery is not possible in this state.

So we are looking into starting chemotherapy and radiation as well as looking into procedures such as CyberKnife.

My mother lives in India, while we (both the children) are here in the US. One option would be to bring her here for treatment, for family support and care, if not for anything else. Of course, she wouldn't have insurance, so cost is a concern.

Can anyone give me an estimate of how much it would cost for a standard term of chemotherapy and radiation? Also, which drugs are most commonly used to treat pancreatic cancer? I know it's usually tailored for individuals, but I'm trying to get an estimate anyway.

Any help will be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

I don't want to discourage you at all, but health care costs here in the states are enormous, as you may know. I am treated with Gemzar on a three week on/one off schedule and have a CT scan every 60 days. My insurance company is billed over $30,000 per month, and actually pays about 1/2 or 2/3 of that. I pay only a deductible and copay of about $3000 per year. You might try talking to a hospital about treatment options and paying for them before you make a final decision. Good luck to you and your mom.
