Hello all,
My father 67 recently went through a routine check up and they discovered a 3.5 by 4.4 cm nodule in the left lower 7th segment of his liver. He is a diabetic, BP, cholesterol patient who just recently recovered from a meningitis coma. The tumor was not detected while he was in the hospital for his meningitis which was less than a year ago. So i suspect its new. They haven't given him a definite prognosis but they are saying differential DX of HCC or adenoma at best. His Afp level is 400 currently, he has no physical symptoms of liver problems but the CT and MRI are both showing the mass. They are suggesting a resection but his liver is mildly cirrhosis . they think he can go through surgery but hes a high risk patient. my dad is scared, and hesitant, he says since he's not really feeling symptoms, he's not willing to possibly lower his remaining quality of life for something with low survival chances that he'd rather go in peace. But at the same time, i feel like this is early on, and it might be a missed chance, and something we will all regret. Reading all of your stories on this forum makes me a gut wrenching sorrow that I can't even express . but then there's amazing calm in all of this. please let me know if you've been faced with similar decisions and what your thoughts are. Hi sorry to hear of your recent dilemma. Its tough to try and get someone of sound mind to do what you would think right for them. Sometimes that person knows their body better than anyone eles and something may be telling him its not the right move to make at this time.
Maybe you can get second or third opinions? and Not with the same group of doctors as they tend to back each others opinions.
Did anyone suggest a biopsy for a more conclusive answer as to what options are?
I understand your thinking about maybe this is a chance to nip it now. but Id weigh all options carefully before I would put him under possibly unnecessay surgery. get more opinions. keep us posted
maybe someone eles has other thoughts on this. hoping you find answers soon.
