I have been dx with a cluster of microcalcifications and am awaiting a mammotone. I have done a lot of research and would like to know the history behind it as I have never heard of them before.

How long ago and what led the bc community to realize that these
could be a sign of cancer?

Hello

Microcalcifications have been recognized as a sign of possible malignancy since early studies my mammograms. It is just one characteristic in the image that makes it suspicious, but it is not a definite evidence of malignancy whatsoever.

regards,
Leo
