Today my wife finished her first round of chemo. Other than being extremely tired she has had no side effects. Very Happy I think the herbal medicine is doing its job in preventing the side effects. Tomorrow she has Zometa treatment,(thanks Dan) and Mon a visit with the onc and then home for a couple weeks, which is a much needed break from all this. I am still praying for a miracle. Dan, pbj11, I can only say, thank you so very much for your help. I want to continue to hear from both of you as long as god is willing. I consider both of you to be my true friends. GOD BLESS

She may not see side effects show up until two to three days after today's infusion. I hope that your wife tolerates her treatments well.

The effects of the chemo are starting to kick in. Although she has no severe symptoms, she says she is extremely uncomfortable. She just wants to lay down and not move. Can of you recommend any home or other remedies for an improved feeling? How many days should this last? I believe the herbs are helping with the nausea, but may not with the entire feeling. GOD BLESS

She is on Cisplatin, and etoposide. Also Zometa for her bones.

Generally, it takes about a week for it to subside completely. A few days to peak, then it gradually goes away. Different drugs produce different symptoms too. Most of it is like having a bad case of the flu.

Might want to have her take B-6 to help ward off any peripheral neuropathy from the cisplatin. It might help.

Keep her very well hydrated. Sorry -- it's a matter of having to ride it out. At least she's not nauseated -- that's good!

Good luck!

Pbj11, Thanks for the info. Seems to be wearing off a little now. Her cough was better, but now has returned. Why it got better before the treatment I dont know. She is very miserable, but not nauseated. I guess it takes a couple of treatments to improve matters. At least I sure hope so. Thank you, GOD BLESS

Yes -- once the chemo starts shrinking the tumors, the symptoms will get better. The only rub is that the effects of the chemo are cumulative and you tend to have a harder time keeping the blood counts up as you have more chemo. Not for everyone, so maybe she'll do well.

Thumbs up and tell her it will pass. God love her.

Would anyone know if it is possible to see results in 1 week after the first treatment? My wife has a large tumor that has partially collapsed her lung and his blocking her airway, she has coughed for 1 month. Surprisingly the coughing has completely stopped and she is feeling great. It sure seems fast but maybe the chemo can work this fast, or it could be the herbal meds she is on. Anybody have any ideas?? GOD BLESS

JJBE;
I went over with you about my cancer ride, now your sweat wife is on hers, the drugs are different than mine but her cancer is in other places than mine, others here will be able to relate better with these treatments than my self but thanks for sharing this is an education for me too.
God Bless
Dan

Dan, I know everyone is different, but doesnt this seem too fast. Maybe the chemo can work that fast. Hopefully I will hear from someone who can give me an idea.

I was taking the same chemo as she is. My coughing got much better in the first couple of weeks. I was doing radiation at the same time as well. Im not sure if it was actually shrinking the tumor that fast though. From what I remember I never asked the doc why.

I think it can, I have had 2 cycles of chemo and my tumours have shrunk by 70 % after the fisrt cycle. I believe in the power of positive thinking. I finished second cycle 2 days ago and hoping the side effects won't be too bad this time.
