My husband is 48 and he passed three small blood clots during three different sessions of urination last week. The next day we went to the urologist and he tested for a bladder infection - none was found. He examined his prostate and said it was very large but soft. His PSA taken 4 months ago was 1.9. At this same age my husband's dad was diagnosed with prostate cancer and later died.
The day after the doctor visit, no more blood but now he has burning when he urinates, urinates VERY frequently, and has buring and discomfort in his lower abdomen. His back also aches. He feels very tired and is sleeping alot. In three days the doctor is going to do a scope to check him out. I am terrified this is prostate cancer. Do any of you have similar circumstances? Could this be prostate cancer?

CDS:
With a PSA of 1.9, it may not be prostate cancer, assuming he is about your age or older. It could be prostatitis or a few other things. It could either be benign prostatic hypertrophy, or bacterial prostatitis. At age 50 and over, a large percentage of men have prostate cancer, and it does not spread. It just sits there. I know your concern, but education on this subject is worth its weight in gold. Please email me for more information at DavidCohen99@att.net.

Please don't panic on this. I will spend as much time educating you as necessary, and there are many others that will help you also. While I do have prostate cancer myself, I'm not letting it ruin my life. The chances are not big that he has prostate cancer, and if he does, with such a low PSA, he has a very good prognosis.

good luck to you.

Hi CDS,

I was only diagnosed with prostate cancer 2 months ago and I don't know very much about it yet so I wouldn't think of giving any advice or opinions regarding symptoms, etc.

However, I have a very positive attitude and if your husband wants or needs moral support, I will certainly try to be here for him.

Hello,

The symptoms can be due to an infection as well. But it sounds your husband is having a full evaluation for this, so you will soon know what this is.

best regards,
Leo

BTW, you can have non-bacterial prostatitis which can cause these symptoms. There will be a few more tests before you get a better answer, so be patient, and don't panic. The PSA is low enough to give you some breathing room. My PSA was 6.7 when I started my treatment.
