The path report from my LEEP is being sent to Johns Hopkins for further interpretation. Apparently the GYN Oncology dept is the best there. They are tying to determine whether the invasive cancer has spread to my lymphatic system. I am getting drastically different opinions from the top docs in GYN Oncology ranging from a radical hysterectomy to another cone procedure in three months. I'm 36 and desperately want more children. I have a 4-month old. Thoughts?

Hi RWM,

Wow, sounds like you have very conflicting recommendations.

Now you said they are sending a LEEP report to determine whether cancer is in your lymph system? That seems a little weird as the only way you can tell if cancer has gotten into the lymph system is to biopsy a lymph node. Have they biopsied any nodes? A LEEP is just a sample from the cervix.

Have they determined any stage for you? If it is just on the cervix, you can have just a cone biopsy. In fact, a cone biopsy should be done regardless to determine how invasive the cancer is.

Doctors like to recommend a radical hysterectomy especially to women in your age range because they like to play it safe. Since you do have a child already, they feel less need to try to save your fertility versus someone who is in their 20's. This does not mean though that any doctor suggesting a rad hyst is wrong. It may actually be the best treatment option for you.

What I recommend is listen to the doctor is who really straight forward with you and explains all your options and scenarios to determine the best treatment plan for you.

I hope this helps answers your questions.
