Hello all,
I just wanted to ask for thoughts and prayers as my Mom will be having a "Radio Frequency Ablation" tomorrow (27th) which is a procedure where they will go into her lung via a needle probe and "burn" the tumor. She has 3 tumors and this is the largest one and located in her lower right lobe where they feel they will have good access to it.
She is very nervous as they do not use anesthsia, but will put her on an IV and put her in that twilight zone...so she will technically be awake. They will use a local where they will insert the needle.
This is an out patient procedure and although her Onc Doc and all those involved seem to say it to be a safe thing....it makes me sick to my stomach at knowing what she has to go through, plus the possibility of a collasped lung, which is the biggest risk.
So dear friends, I sure would appreciate your prayers!

Trudy,
You've got mine too! I'm excited for her to have this treatment and glad to see they are starting to utilize this more in lung cancer.

It was a long day, but a very good one....Mom came through the procedure beautifully...we were at the hospital about 8+ hours from beginning to end.
It is amazing what they can do! The doctor came up after Mom was rested and showed us exactly what he did on the computer. He went in there and burned that tumor!
He said it will take up to 4 + months for the tumor to shrink away and absorb into the body, but he felt he got all of the tumor. Her tumor was right near the edge of her lung, so it was easier to get to.
He did say that these next couple of weeks she will need to lay low, as a collaspe lung could still occur as the tumor shrinks and as with any surgery to watch for infection etc. She had very little pain and today says she feels "like something is in there" but does not have pain.
They did not have to use general anesthsia, they used what they use for a colonoscopy....and she came throught it like the trooper she is.
Mom slept well through the night...I didn't  ) I was listening for any signs of complications....today I am exhausted!

Trudy,
Whew -- thanks for the update. Your Mom is a champion --- and so are you!
This is so exciting to hear and such hope for viable options. More options are always a good thing!
Keep us posted and I hope she does wonderful in her recuperation. You get some rest too!!
