Hello, I am new here, I just found this site.
I dont know much about lung cancer only what I have read and it really scares me.
My aunt found out about her lung cancer about a month ago it is inoperable . It has spread throu her right lung and they said her top right rib was gone and we just found out that it is in her muscular sys. and up her neck. That is about all she will tell us. When I asked her about the stage of her cancer she told me that she didnt ask and that was something she didnt want to know. Infact its like she really dont want to know anything about the cancer or the treatments infact when I ask her what the Dr said she tells me she really dont know cause she dosent listen to him. I can understand why she dont want to talk about iit so I stoped asking questions. I was hoping that someone could help me understand all this.
She did tell me that she starts 6 weeks of radiation 5 days a week and chemo 1 time a week. Can you tell me what the chances of the treatment working? Thank you and God bless!

The purpose of the treatment you are describing for NSCLC Stage IV is referred to as palliative. That means that the goal is to reduce symptoms and pain and to improve quality of life. It appears to me that you aunt's disease is Stage IV which means that there is a metastisis outside the lung and lymph system (such as a rib). Her oncologist should be able to confirm the stage and state the goal(s) of the treatment.

Having just gone through a losing battle with this disease with my wife, I would strongly suggest that you and you aunt have a conference with her oncologist to discuss the treatment plan.

Many advise a second opinion be sought.

We were not properly advised of the prognosis and treatment options. We suffered dearly because of this.

Definately get a second opinion, I would consider going to the best "cancer hospital" around also.
