Hi,
I was diagnosed 5/23/03, invasive dcis 2.3 cm,2 of 14 nodes positive, er/pr positive, her negative. Right mast 6/20/03, 4AC &4T8/21/03 through 1/15/04, 28 rads ending 4/28/04 ( rt breast, lymph nodes, super clav. nodes & mam nodes). Started arimidex 5/04, since chemo put me in menopause,(last cycle 9/21/03). Well cycles came back 8/24/04, so I had to stop arimidex. Blood work came back I was in a "gray area". Waiting for my onc appointment on 11/29/04 to discuss treatment. Doctor will want me to start tamoxifin, but I have heard of people doing lupron with arimidex. I think I like this choice better. I did arimidex for 4 months and feel I can deal with the side effects, but am afraid of tamoxifin. My dad has a problem with blood clots (pulminary embolisims) and I am afraid I might also. I have been told my doctor likes to follow studies, so I am trying to find any on lupron with arimidex. Any info would be appriciated.

Hello

While tamoxifen certainly gives you a higher chance of pulmonary embolism, the choice between that and leuprolide/anastrozole is not straight-forward. I can not offer specific advice about which way to go, but encourage you to talk to your doctor.

I was on Lupron and Tamoxifen together and didn't have many side effects for a long time. Most Lupron takers have hot flashes, but I escaped that too. I stopped the Lupron last year since it appears I am finally post-menopausal. However, the tamoxifen has caused hyperplasia in my uterus so he is switching me to Arimidex. I'm hoping I adapt as well to it. I'm nervous because Tamoxifen was working so well.
