Hi Leo,
Thanks for your past patience with my questions. I am still pursuing answers to a symptom. Not interested in a definitive diagnosis, but still need to know how to ask the right questions. I was given CAT Scan the other day and mentioned this in past posts. There is a lump on my jaw of approximately 2cm+ The CT reported that the parotid glands were normal sized and no inflammation or other things seemed to be amiss. But! there is a palpable lump despite the Radiologist report saying there was nothing noted. I have a follow up with GP on this next Tues 1/18/2005. Since this is not considered a parotid problem, but there is a lump, Can melanoma, or other dangerous problems be possible, or is it likely I am chasing an ordinary piece of fatty tissue. I am not over weight and the lump has not always been there nor is there one like it on the left side of my face. What type of doctor would I see? My GP does not do any hands on work apparently. Would this problem go to a dermatology surgeon, or who? It does not appear to be a cyst of any sort. I have never had the first hint of Acne in my life. My skin is extremely fair and there are no apparent blemishes. I do not want to make more of this than is necessary but I also do not want to lose the side of my face to Cancer either. I had a younger sibling die of nonsmall cell squamous carcinoma of unknown primary origin. He was only 49. He started with a symptomless lump and 2 years later died. I don't want to panic over my lump but I guess you can see my conflict over whether to chase this, or ignore this.

Merianne

This can be a lot of things. An enlarged lymphnode, a gland or a cyst. It can also be cancer, but it is impossible to determine. You definitely need to talk to your GP to see what he thinks. If he thinks it is worrysome enough that this should be biopsied, he will direct you to the right specialist.

best regards,
Leo
