My aunt was diagnosed with endo cancer a couple of years (Fall 2003) and had hysterectomy. Doctors found recurrance this fall, spread to bone in leg and ribs (from what I've read this is stage IV B?) In addition, she is diabetic 9don't know if this complicates matters or not)

Docs have surgically removed bone from thigh and replaced with rod. She has entered a clinical trial using ixabepilone and cancer in thigh has responded to first round (no cancer present in thigh area).

We, her family, ALL live in another state. We are trying to help her but are in the dark about what to expect. Doctors naturally are trying to keep her in good spirits, and WILL not talk to her about "life expectancy".

Does anyone know....do we have time to help her make financial arrangements for her future care...or is this a mute point? Will she be with us Christmas?

Statistically: Does she have 24, 12, 6 mths to live?

I realize that there is ALWAYS a chance for a miracle, but realistically, what do WE need to prepare for?

Hi!
I was diagnosed with stage 4c endometrial cancer, 2 weeks after my 29th birthday in January last year. After surgery, chemo and radiotherapy i am still alive. I was misdiagnosed for about 2 years beforehand, so all in all, I guess I've been around for a good while whilst having or having had cancer.
Obviously everyone is different, so I guess there aren't any definate guidelines. Apparently I am doing 'remarkably' and appear to be (though no one can be sure) in remission. I suppose what I am saying is, make sure you have a place for her at the summertime party table and the christmas table and whatever else. Enjoy her being around whenever you can see her (I don't know how far away she is) and help her to remain positive rather than counting off the weeks to the point at which she may or may not die. The one thing about cancer is that nobody ever really seems to know for sure.

Thank you so much for responding!

We don't talk to her about life expectency, prognosis, etc. We try to stay positive with her about future outlook...we just spend alot of time behind the scenes trying to plan (she has a disabled mother living with her who will need assistance if anything happens, and a son who will need a little support)

Since my initial post, she has responded well to her clinical trial. We aren't sure if she is cancer free or significantly reduced...but either way, sounds encouraging.

She lives a few hours away, but we plan a yearly Christmas get-together at various vacation spots. I am glad to hear there is apparently more than reasonable hope for her recovery...and maybe we can just keep on trucking along business as usual!

Again...thanks for your quick response. The entire family has been on pins and needles not having a clue what to expect!
