I'm a 48 yr. old female smoker and lately I've noticed when I'm lying down I hear like a wheezing sound like rails when I breathe. If I cough, it stops but it is alarming me. What could this be indicative of? I never am short of breath and don't cough at all, but in mornings I do have some brownish mucous that I cough up which has lasted about 1 year.

Otherwise I am in good health and lab tests normal.

P.S. I also have a little bump at the tip of my tongue. My dentist told me it was nothing to worry about if it doesn't change (it hasn't) and that it is like a little wart. Should I get this bump removed and sent to lab for evalution? It is about the size of a pin head.

Hello

Thanks for posting. You may be developing chronic bronchitis and COPD. You may be getting accumulation of mucus in your respiratory tree. You should seek medical attention and most definitely try to quit smoking ASAP.

best regards,
Leo

P{lease try and quit the smoking. Things will clear up in your lungs, food will taste better and you will have more energy. Even if you need to chew nicorette forever it is still better than putting the smoke in your lungs.
