My mum lives in Spain and was diagnosed with cancer 7 weeks ago. With my mum living in another country it is difficult for me to understand everything that is going on, the ergency for answers?
Everytime we get an interpreter the answers seem to change, and not for the better. After the initial diagnosis which changed form cervical cancer to colon cancer we were told that after all the tests, they had decided that the cancer wasn't secondary, it wasn't touching the liver or the kidney, it was the size of a satsuma, she didn't need radiotherapy (something we were told she would need in the first consultation) and the worst that could happen would be a colostomy bag. That was approximately 2 or 3 weeks ago. Last week, my mum started vomiting blood (she hasn't had any appetite and has lost a lot of weight, which I am sure must be natural), but now everything has changed again, apparently my mum has been too weak to operate on, the cancer seems to be more dense than they originally thought, she has been put on drips to be fed and has a catheta put back in and they are trying to get her well enough to operate on, but this might not be the operation to remove the cancer, it could possible be an exploritary operation to see how bad things have got??
What I don't understand is how can things have changed so much in a matter of weeks?
I don't understand that 2 weeks ago what was the worst case scenario has now turned into the best case scenario??
If anyone has been in this situation all can possibly tell me what might be going on, I feel like I've missed something. I'm holding back going to visit my mum until the operation has taken place, but I am really worried about what that operation will actually be?

You definitely have some communication issues. That aside your mom needs some extra help. I am assuming that the medical system in Spain is similar to ours in North America.

Your mom needs natural products to support her system. A naturopath/dietician can assess her condition and formulate a remedy that will likely be in liquid form and help your mom regain her strength. I am sure that she is getting plenty of fluids including the required electrolites but I am also sure that she is lacking in the essentials we need to rebuild and maintain energy, vitamins and other nutrients. Hospital food seems to be seriously deficient in this regard.

There should be sufficient diagnostics information from a series of tests to determine the type and extent of your mom's cancer. Surgery of any kind should only be for removal of the cancer. Abdominal surgery is very hard on the body, especially on one that is weakened by age and cancer. So if surgery must be done it should not just be exploratory.

I hope your mom is doing better and that I have been of some help to you.

I have read and heard a lot about the naturopath. And recently I also contact one doctor who is specialized in this kind of therapy in India who is helping the patients to improve the general health condition. It seems that this kind of therapy does have some positive action.

And as far as I know she is now considering on combining the therapy with some sort of anticancer drug which was made of natural plants, not the usual chemotherapeutic drug. Maybe some kind of TCM(Traditional Chinese Medicine) anticancer drug.

It seems like that TCM drug has little side effects and do not have the similar adverse reaction as chemo drug. I think it will be good to improve the overall health condition also which will help your mum regain the strength for the operation.

If it is true I think maybe it will be another good choice for cancer treatment.

I hope this will give you some insight for your mum's disease.
