During laser hair removal, hair absorbs energy and heats up, which damages the hair follicle. Can this burning/damaging of the cells/tissue in a follicle cause those cells to mutate or become cancerous?

I have not read or heard a specific answer to your question. However, I would not be surprised if there is a small possibility of the laser causing mutations that would lead to cancer. Having said that, I am sure that if a significant danger does exist it would have already been reported.

Good question none the less. Do you ask it for a specific reason?

Im pretty sure that it would have been reported by now. A clinical study was undertaken into whether tattoos can cause cell mutation with the conclusion that they didnt.

It has never been reported that picking at, irritating or plucking hairs from a mole can cause the cells to mutate into melanoma. Cell mutations happen all the time to all of us and we all have cancerous cells at any one time. However for the most part our immune system takes care of it.

Laser surgery is carried out to cure or treat many cancers - so it may indeed have the opposite effect!
