I just wondered if anyone else has encountered this. Doris spent a very
quiet night her first night home. She has been passive and quiet for six
weeks refusing to get out of bed unless 2 people pivoted her into a chair
with tremendous urging. She could not concentrate or cooperate for P.T.
She has been very peaceful. Out of the blue last night at 4:00 in the
morning she decided that was the perfect time to try to get out of bed and go somewhere. Yikes! This was a total aberration from the past 6-7 weeks. And she was STRONG. She had a will and a strength that came out of the blue. Fortunately I am sleeping in a bed next to her and used my wits to keep her from climbing over the side rails. Just wondered if
you've seen this too. sara

Sara,
We experienced the same thing with my dad on different occassions. We ended up having to have someone stay in the room with him at all times afraid that if we didn't he may end up hurting himself. He did fall once from trying to get up--luckily there was a wall very close by and he was able to hold on to that until we could get him situated again. This is one of the most frustrating parts of the disease. To watch your loved one struggle so much with the things they have done everyday and to know that they are still aware of what is going on but don't themselves always know what they can and cannot do. For dad, it would normally be right after he awoke from sleeping for a while. Almost like he would forget for that instant that he could no longer walk.
