Well my dad (67 yo) just got diagnosed.

I'm new to all of this and don't know a lot. They did 10 biopsies and one was positive. His PSA is 7.4

Thank god the bone scans and xrays reveled that it didn't spread and I guess it is a very small area (millimeters) I am not sure how they can tell this from the xrays.

His Doctor referred him to Dana Farber in Boston to a Dr. Dimico (SP) who does seed implants. I'm very concerned about what procedure he should have done. This Dr. specializes in seeds so I can only guess he will suggest the seeds. With his PSA at 7.5 and 1 out of 10 biopsies being positive does anyone have any real world advice? MANY THANKS!

Selection of a top doctor is most important, regardless of which treatment you choose.

There are several treatment options, all of which have similar long term results, so it usually comes down to preference and consideration of potential side effects.
Most men consider surgery, radiation, proton treatment, watchful waiting.

It's worth doing some research:

www.prostate-cancer.com has a good treatment guide

www.yananow.net has lots of infromation and stories from men who have undertaken various treatments. Look under mentors experiences

Johns Hopkins newsletter of winter 2003 has a good article on watchful waiting and "insignificant cancers" www.urology.jhu.edu/newsletter

It's worth reading a good book like the one by Dr Lee Nelson or Peter Scardino.

John
