G'day all from Oz,
I was just curious as to how many (percentage) have been tested for the above-mentioned genetic test and have come back positive to 1p/19q deletions for this tumour.
My wife and I have only just been notified to go ahead with the chromosome test.
I have read that there is a better long term prognosis (response to chemo and radiotherapy) if these deletions are present.
I will relay our results when we get them back from pathology. (Fluorescent in situ hybridizaion) test.
Thank-you all for your previous replies, and I pray that everyone affected by this disease can be cured.
Derek

Derek,
Yes, what you said seems to be true, at the preliminary evidence show this. I did a quick pubmed search and found several articles supporting your statement that 1p/11q deletions are predictive with response.

Here is a link:
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/query.fcgi?db=pubmed&cmd=Retrieve&dopt=AbstractPlus&list_uids=16954518&itool=iconabstr&query_hl=1&itool=pubmed_docsum

Remember to take everything in context, it's predictive but not absolute. It's kind of like statistics on survival. There will always be a subgroup that responds even when the tests say they won't. Good luck.

Hi Derek,

I was tested for this genetic mutation... however, I do not remember the results... it has been a long time (anything over 1 year is a long time Laughing). In any event, I took two cycles of chemotherapy (CCNU), then surgery, and then radiation therapy but have not had any additional chemotherapy. My last treatment was March 2006 and I am still here Very Happy.
