My mother has multiple myeloma and yesterday she fractured her femur. She has been diagnosed since 04...started with thalidimide treatment, then had a stem cell transplant from her brother and now it undergoing remelin? and dexamethazone treatment......anyway, she has had muscle and nerve problems in her right leg for the last 9 months, she fell a month ago but just yesterday after "turning the wrong way" collapsed to find her femur completed broken and out of alignment?

I am wondering if anyone else has had experience with multiple myeloma and broken bones? wondering how much this can be related and any prognosis or info you can help me with. She is undergoing surgery this afternoon.

Hi 0802mom, my ex-father-in-law who I dearly loved, died of multiple myeloma over 10 years ago. He lived with it for many, many years. The only bone he actually ever broke was his arm. But he had spots in several other places. I do not remember the chemotherapy treatment he was on, but I do know that they treated to local occurrences with radiation.

Your mother's broken femur can certainly be related to her cancer. It was in my father-in-law's case. As for prognosis, I am not really up to date on prognosis for multiple myeloma. All I can go on is my FIL's case where he did live for a number of years with a reasonably good quality of life. However, he gradually became weaker and died way too soon.

You and your mother are in my thoughts and prayers.
