| First, thanks for your advice. My PSA was 5.0 during my physical. I am 50 years old. The urologist thiught is was from a low grade infection and but me ona antibotic for 6 weeks. On retesting it was still 5 and my free PSA was .15. He said he was worried and I am scheduled for a biopsy in 2 weeks. I do have some left side lower back aches. He says he still thinks it may be inflamation because of my psoriasis and arthitus. I just wanted some feedback as to what you folks make of these readings. I dont know anything and yes I am concerned. Thank you. |

First, IMHO, don't worry.
Rather than repeat it all, see my entry in the "New PCA3 Test" thread.
In preparation for a radical prostatectomy, I've been given a book by my urologist titled "Prostate and Cancer". Not being near the book right now, I can't tell you the author, but it has more good information than I knew was available about prostate cancer, detection, treatment and recovery.
I would ask your doctor to check with Bostwick Labs about their PCA3 test. Although it cannot replace biopsy for confirmation of the presence of cancer, it appears to be a much better tool to detect its likelyhood compared with PSA alone.
And back to my first point - don't worry. You're doing what you need in order to take control of the situation. This isn't "your father's prostate cancer" in the sense that it's being found and effectively treated so much earlier than ever, it's likely that if you have it - and find it, you will be able to fix it.
Be vigilant.
Best wishes. _________________ Kzimm |

You're doing the right thing by getting a biopsy to be sure this isn't cancer. Good luck. _________________ RLee, MD

Did you have the biopsy?
