Hi all - I have a question for anyone who might be able to put some insight into my situation. My daughter had 3 wks of radiation ending at the end of March. She had her follow up PET scan on May 17, 2007. We went today for her follow up bone marrow aspiration. The oncologist told us that her PET showed some light up in her neck and a small portion in her chest. When she went after chemo for the PET it just showed some cancer "light up" in her chest. He says that this is probably because we did the PET too soon after Radiation. Does anyone know or from your own experience how long after radiation the PET should be followed up? Our oncologist says that he wants to wait 1-3 months to repeat the PET. When she was diagnosed she had only had it approximately two to two and a half months and she was staged at a 4a. My worry is that if we wait what if it starts to grow again and she gets worse rather than better. Should I take her and have a second opinion done at this time?

Any information would be greatly appreciated I am just worried to death now because he cannot confirm remission now. Please help me with this if you can. Thanks.

Hi Boldelly,

I have no reason to doubt your daughter's oncologist. However, if you have any doubts, a second opinion is always an acceptable option. Keep the lines of communication with your daughter's medical team opened. Express to them your concerns.

God bless you and your daughter.
