| Hi, I just started my chemo this Thursday. What bothers me the most right now is pain and blisters in my mouth. I'm curious if anyone else more experienced has some trick for reducing it. |

You might want to ask your oncologist for a prescription for something called "magic mouthwash" _________________ Follicular lymphoma grade 3, stage 2 dx 9/99 CHOP x 3 3600 rads rituxan x4 |

All I know is that I have Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma. I live in Berlin and don't know much German so it's very hard for me to understand my diagnose. It's very frustrating but this is my home and I trust the doctors. I went to the private clinic because it's an "international" hospital and the doctors and nurses was supposed to speak English, but only a handful knew any English at all and only one doctor had the vocabulary to explain my decease to me. The funny this is that the doctors and nurses at the my new hospital speaks good English. All my paperwork is in German and I can't read it so I'm sorry for not being able to tell you exactly what I have.
I went to the Clinic a little more than a month ago and they confirmed that I had a 6,5 inch tumor in my belly. It was blocking my liver so we had to take it out immediately. The operation went kind of bad. They wasn't able to remove it because of my bleeding and I received two blood transfusions and the operation took seven hours. They only managed to take a sample of the tumor. I still have internal bleeding from the surgery and it's not so good for my chemo.
After a lot of tests they said I had Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma and I only have tumors below the diaphragm and nothing in my bone marrow and so on. I'm very very lucky! I started my chemo four days ago and I'm very positive.
I was transfered from a private clinic to a university hospital who are Lymphoma experts, and I'm a part of a study and under the watch of a board of doctors. I know that I'm not getting any experimental treatment but I get the newest treatment there is.
I'm off to the hospital to give my first blood sample to check my blood picture.
Thank you for the tip about the mouth wash! I'm burning up here ^__^" _________________ Non-Hogkins Lymphoma

Hi Linda--
Glad you got a script, and one for the wig. There is a lot of good information on NHL at www.lymphomation.org and its worth checking out the site On the site there is a tip list for coping with CHOP-R, put together by patients, if that is the chemo you are having

Hi, Linda,
I kept ice in my mouth as much as possible during the administration of the drugs at the suggestion of my hema/onc doc. It worked brilliantly, kept me form getting sores (not sure why) and also provided me with additional hydration to help my liver and kidneys up to speed. Popsicles are good, too, but I would be wary. I used those for my first tx, and had a strong aversion to anything orange tasting/smelling for years after I was finished .
Best,
Jessica |

I found my own solution which is great actually! Chewing gum! I'm practically fine in my mouth now. I still take mouth wash and fungus medication four times a day, but the chewing gum make a huge difference! _________________ Non-Hogkins Lymphoma
